On My Way Back

Right now, my front lawn is under 3 feet of snow. Come spring, I'm hoping to begin posting again.

Over the last year, I've dedicated a lot of time to barefoot and minimalist running. My running has taken on an entirely new quality. It is much more enjoyable and feels more deeply connected to the rest of my life. Even though the mileage is down as I learn new running form, the positive effects on my life are much more pronounced.

Barefoot running strengthens your feet since that's how humans were meant to run. The reason why the kenyans are so good runners and have strong feet is because they don't wear running shoes until they turn 17. The more cushion your shoes have the more acceptable your going to be to injuries. The more expensive the shoe the worse off you will be. Studies have shown that shoes over $95 increase injuries by 200%. I wear racing flats and they work just great. I would recommend running 3 times a week barefoot in the grass if possible.

Read or listen to Born to Run by Christopher Macdougal if you want more info on running shoes. Breaks down the science of running and shoe injuries from studies of the best pediatrists in the world since 1972. Best book i've read and insight into the tarahamar tribe who've been running barefoot 300-420 miles at a time for decades.

I'd be very interested to hear about your venture into barefoot and minimalist running. I've given some thought to this movement but haven't taken the steps to give it a try myself yet. Hopefully you post some experiences.

You guys should try this bottle I just bought – www.cleanbottle.com – it’s a sports bottle that unscrews at both ends. Its pretty cool – it helps me really easily clean out my sports or recovery drink so my bottle doesn’t look like a petri dish. I got them from the website and they have a deal where if you buy 3 you get 1 free.
